Atia Ferdousee

Advisor

Atia is an economist with five years of experience in revenue forecasting and economic analysis for Virginia local government.

Since 2024, Atia has served as Senior Budget Analyst for Revenue and Economic Forecasting in the City of Norfolk’s Department of Budget and Strategic Planning. There she prepares the revenue forecast for the city’s operating budget of more than $1.5 billion and its long-range financial plan. She gathers data from constitutional officers, state agencies, and universities and applies statistical models to develop revenue estimates and analyze local, state, and national revenue trends. Previously, she served as Economic and Policy Analyst in Norfolk’s Department of General Services.

Atia’s research on the effects of public policy has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at the Southern Economic Association, and she taught undergraduate economics at Middle Tennessee State University while pursuing her doctorate. Her combination of academic training and hands-on forecasting experience gives her a practical, data-driven perspective on the revenue questions local governments face.
