About
Why 9th Street?
Our story is a local story. We got our start in Lynchburg, Virginia, a historic city on the banks of the James River.
Running perpendicular to the river, rising through the heart of downtown, is 9th Street. City Hall, where our founding team first worked together, sits on 9th, just below the iconic Monument Terrace staircase (the inspiration for the four horizontal lines in our logo).
We chose this name to honor where we started and to remind ourselves always of who we are here to serve: local communities like ours.
Who We Serve
We work with local governments and school divisions across Virginia — cities, counties, towns, and divisions of every size and need. Whether you are a major urban county managing a multi-year capital program or a rural school division bringing in senior financial expertise for the first time, we are here to help.
Local government is not one-size-fits-all, and neither is what we do. We tailor every engagement to the specific needs, culture, and capacity of our partner communities.
Our Values
Excellence
This is what it’s all about. We strive to do our work to the highest standards. We don’t cut corners, and when we see a problem we address it, because the buck stops with us.
Proximity
We are a regional firm by design. We believe that understanding our clients, really understanding them, requires being close, curious, and intentional.
Trust
Trust is earned through knowledge, judgment, integrity, and discretion. We understand that without earning our clients’ trust, we cannot be effective advisors.
Stewardship
We know that communities are in the business of stewardship, and that’s our approach, too. We measure success not by the number of engagements we complete but by what happens during and after our engagement. Is the community stronger? That’s our litmus test.
